Occasional discomfort can happen with long-term use, but pain that is frequent, worsening, or limiting your daily activities is not typical. Pain years after surgery may relate to wear, loosening, soft-tissue changes, or conditions in nearby joints, and it is worth having reviewed.

Assessment commonly includes a detailed examination and X-rays and, when needed, a CT scan, blood tests, or a sample of joint fluid. These help work out whether symptoms are coming from the implant, the soft tissues, or other factors.
