Prevention First

Stronger joints. Fewer surgeries.

Most people who walk through our doors are not here for surgery. They are here to move better, feel better and stay out of the operating theatre for as long as possible.

Why Prevention Comes First

Built on prevention first healthcare

Orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists work under one model of care at MTP Health. Our allied health team designs and runs the programs that help you improve joint function and prevent or postpone surgery.

Joint pain rarely appears overnight. Strength, control and confidence slip gradually, and stairs, gardening or a longer walk start to feel harder than they should. Left alone, that decline can lead toward injury, loss of function and, in some cases, surgery.

Targeted, progressive exercise can change that trajectory. Building the muscle activation, range of movement and control your joints rely on may reduce pain, improve function and keep you doing the things you enjoy. Where surgery does become the right option, arriving stronger tends to make recovery smoother.

Our Model of Care

Move. Train. Perform.

A first in the Australian healthcare landscape: three phases, one team. Where you start depends on your current level of pain and function, not on a fixed pathway.

PHASE 1

Move

Relieve & Recover

Regain foundational movement and the ability to perform daily tasks safely without pain.

PHASE 2

Train

Move & Restore

Rebuild joint capacity and functional strength through structured, progressive programs.

PHASE 3

Perform

Momentum & Freedom

Sustain your health and performance for the long term with an industry-leading team behind you.

MTP Health physiotherapist assessing joint function

Every program starts with a 50-minute initial consultation and a comprehensive functional assessment. From there we agree what a successful outcome looks like for you, and match you to the right program and level.

Tailored Prevention Programs

Do you really need surgery?

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can exercise really help me avoid surgery?

For many joint conditions, structured strength and mobility work can reduce pain and improve function enough that surgery is postponed or no longer needed. It depends on your condition and how your joints respond, which is why every program starts with a functional assessment.

Do I need a referral to start a program?

No. You can book an initial consultation directly. If you have been referred by a GP or surgeon, bring your referral and any imaging and we will build it into your plan.

Which program should I start with?

Your 50-minute initial consultation determines that. Most people with ongoing joint pain begin in Restore, then progress to Momentum and Freedom as strength and confidence build.

What if I have already been told I need surgery?

You can still benefit. Preparing your body before surgery often supports a smoother recovery, and our Recover Program continues your care afterwards with the same team.

Are the programs suitable for older adults?

Yes. The levels system caters for people with a very low level of function, including those at risk of falls, and progresses at a pace that suits you.
