Exercise Physiology for Healthy Ageing

Staying strong, steady and capable as you get older is something you can keep working on at any age. Exercise physiology for healthy ageing helps older adults build strength, improve balance and keep doing the things they enjoy, from travel and gardening to time with the grandchildren.

Our accredited exercise physiologists at MTP Health's St Leonards and Beacon Hill clinics design programs for every starting point, whether you already train or have not exercised in years. Sessions are supervised, progressive and built around your health and your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Am I too old to start strength training?

Many people start strength training in their 70s and 80s. We begin at a level that suits your current ability and progress gradually from there.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No, programs are designed for any starting point, including people who have been inactive for a long time. Your assessment helps us set a safe and achievable first step.

What funding might help cover exercise physiology for older adults?

Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for support through a Medicare GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, the Support at Home program, DVA or private health insurance. Your GP or My Aged Care can confirm eligibility, and our team can talk you through options.

What if I have a recent injury or new pain after a fall?

Please see our physiotherapy team first for any recent injury or new pain. Once things have settled, our exercise physiologists can pick up the strength and balance work.
